USB Device "Malfunctioned/Unrecognized" after months of use!
Hi I've been using the Audacity program without trouble for months now. It came with a USB enabled turntable so I've been recording my records onto the computer. All of a sudden my computer has stopped recognizing the USB, saying that it has "malfunctioned and windows doesn't recognize it". I haven't changed anything and the cord looks fine, hasn't been pulled or stressed in any way. I've tried various shutdowns/restarts with things plugged in and not plugged in, but always with the same result! What is going on???

The worst news could be the turntable failed. USB turntables are throw-away. Nobody is planning on keeping them around for fifteen years worth of faithful service. They play all your records once and you put them and the records in the dust bin behind the garage.
So the juggling act is to keep them alive long enough to make it through the last record and then die. Sometimes, they die too soon.
Disconnect the USB from the computer and restart the computer. Power off the turntable, count to ten and power it back and then plug the USB connection back in. Any better?
If Windows does not know what the device is, then there's not a lot to do other than restart. Audacity always works through Windows Services

Check your anti virus & MS up-dates, it could be related.

Hey Everyone!
Thanks for all the good advice:) I still don't know what was wrong, but I ended up de-installing and then re-installing the whole program, and now everything seems to be working fine (?)!
