Attenuating the sound level

Post by Katelynn7 » Fri Mar 12, 2010 4:24 pm

I have a wav file (Voice only) where I pieced together several audio clips from other files. Some of the clips are louder than others, and I was wondering if there is a way to make the sound level the same throughout the entire file? Thanks. :P

normalise each one separately
then paste them together

may need to also compress them separately
if they have different dynamics too not just levels

He's right. Preparing your individual voice and sound tracks ahead of time is a big deal. It always sounds funny when you produce a whole show with bouncing levels and volumes and try to fix it later.

Sometimes you can use Chris's Compressor to level out the differences, but don't be shocked if the split and shift points sound a little weird.

that being said
i did have to fix a recording that was given to me
had to look at the tracks from 10000 feet level
see which parts were lower
which was the content - the applause was 10-15 db higher
select them separately
and then raise them enough to match the others
final step - normalise everything
