Broken aup file

Post by BlueMario » Tue Mar 09, 2010 1:38 am

I think I have fixed my static problem, but now I have a new problem. I made a recording recently, and I had some noise from the mic being too close to the TV, so I tried messing with the noise removal. When I didn't like what I had, I clicked open and reopened the aup file, and it gave me the nonsense about two audacities being open. When I had the original open along with the edited, I closed the edited, and accidentally clicked "Yes" to save changes. In a panic, because stupid me didn't make a backup of my recording, I clicked save as and saved the original over itself. I now realize that I probably could've saved as a new file, but it's too late. Now when I open the file, I get a message about 3 of the data files being missing and it opens blank audio. Is there any way I can get my original file back or am I pretty much screwed?

<<<it gave me the nonsense about two audacities being open.>>>

What it meant to say was two instances of Audacity opening up the same Project. That is profoundly unstable.

You can try the crash recovery tools, although your machine didn't actually crash, the result is the same.

<<<Crash Recovery

The second Audacity wrote corrections to a file structure that no longer existed because of the first Audacity. That may have hosed the show, but it's possible Crash Recovery can pull something out of it.

Yeah that didn't work. I guess I can't get it back then?
EDIT: Thanks for your help, I just ended up working around it.

No. Crash Recovery works on the file structure that was interrupted in the wrong place (crash!), not one that you "helped" a little bit.
