Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Downloading effects/reverb on Mac OSX
Hi Folks,
When I downloaded the stable version of Audacity it did not come with reverb, despite the fact that I have read in several spots that it includes reverb (?!). When I try to add the VST bridge to my plug-ins folder, in order to download the VST effects (like reverb) that I need, I get the message that "plug-ins cannot be modified". Thus I can't add the VST bridge or VST effects that I need. Can anyone help?
Many thanks,
RS

You are trying to put files into the .dmg disk image, which won't work. You need to Option-drag the entire contents of the disk image to your hard disk (e.g. to the applications folder), then you can put plugins in and don't need the .dmg any more.

Thanks for the advice. I did as you suggested, moving the entire contents of the disk image into the applications folder then tried to add VST to the plug-ins folder. Unfortunately I got the same result: a message that "plugins cannot be modified". Ideas?

If you click on "Authorize" when it says that, the system will ask you for the name and password of an administrator for your system. If you type a valid one, it will let you move the file.

Re: Downloading effects/reverb on Mac OSX
Just to cover this, I would delete all the Audacity files and folders and re-install like this:
Create a folder called Audacity on your desktop and drag it into your /Applications folder (you may have to authorize it). Everything that has to do with Audacity will now be installed into this folder; Audacity Application, Plug-Ins Folder, Nyquist Folder, License document, LameLib, -help file, etc. etc. Much simpler than trying to chase those files all over the /Application folder.
Audacity runs just fine from there and this process has the additional advantage that Audacity will be in the same folder as the Plug-Ins folder. This is necessary for the downloaded plugins to be visible to Audacity.

Re: Downloading effects/reverb on Mac OSX
Hi
I am trying to install the Gverb effect in OSX using the stable Audacity. I downloaded the SWH LADSPA thing from this link http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=GVerb and used the installer to, er, install it, but it still doesn't show under the menu. What else do I have to do to access this effect - and possibly the others contained within this package?
Many thanks for any help with this - and excuse the cross post as I also asked this in the audio processing forum.
Cheers

Re: Downloading effects/reverb on Mac OSX
I found that on my machine (MacBook Pro Intel, OS X 10.4.10) that I have to manually move all the LADSPA plugins from where the installer puts them (/harddrive/library/audio/plugins) to the plugins folder in the same folder as Audacity. When I do so and restart Audacity, they load fine.I downloaded the SWH LADSPA thing from this link http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=GVerb and used the installer to, er, install it, but it still doesn't show under the menu.
