sources for audio related stuff hdw & sw etc

Post by whomper » Sun Feb 21, 2010 6:04 pm

here is an incomplete list of some web based suppliers of audio hardware software and other related items

be sure to check the stores rating at reseller ratings and similar sites as well as with others who have dealt with them

most are believed to be "okay" but some have less friendly biz practices than others

not sure if the links will survive -- if not google for the name listed and what you are interested in buying/finding

There are a lot more sources out there than you would (at least I did) imagine

Thanks for the list.

It would be much more handy if you posted the people that you actually had personal dealings with like on the Sound Card Reviews posting.

The company buys stuff from B&H and that seems to go well. I've bought stuff from Sweetwater. That's always worked perfectly and the company uses them, too. Their prices are not the lowest, but they stand behind their products and we love the Jujubes, Necco wafers and Smarties they put at the bottom of each shipping container.

i had some of that in my table
but couldnt figure out how to post it so it was viewable

check with resellerratings.com
amazon feedback, and other store info rating sites

I have dealt with and would consider again:
b&h is good although not perfect - multiple purchases
no problem with their stock but drop ships are an issue

musicians friend worked fine for me but have a mediocre rating
but prices vary - wait for a sale

kellys computers&music has good & bad points
would use them selectively - mostly for academic discounts

all dealers through amazon have been good
amazon provides some level of protection by watching them
prices are usually near the lowest - but not always if there are sales at other places

zzounds has good reviews
dont remember if i ordered from them but am planning to

personally dislike guitar center
local store and their ads are a pile of brown stuff
they tried to sell me repacked returns, at list price, when they were having a sale and claiming to beat anyone else by 10%
some sale !!

In the UK I have always had good service from Dolphin Music based in Liverpool: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/

They are more than happy to discuss technical issues on the phone prior to purchase. The things I ordered (USB soundcard, phon pre-amp) over the phone arrived promptly, well-packed and in excellent condition.

Your latitude and time zone can have an impact, too. Some suppliers go to extra effort to ship international.
