Export MP3 through chain settings
1.3.4
Looking for a way to set the MP3 export parameters in a chain.
(would like to save at 48k rather than 128k)
Someone pointed me to Edit, Preferences, File Formats.... but this does not exist in 1.3.4.
I would be happy with setting a default.
Any idea how to do this?

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
File > Export... , select MP3 Files in "Save as type" then click Options button and choose 48 kbps in the Quality dropdown. Press OK, cancel the Export File dialogue, then apply your chain.

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
Thanks....
Tried and it did not seem to "stick". Finally after many tries and reverting to 1.3.3 it worked.
I will try on a second machine to see if I have the same problem.

Got the same problem...
I cannot see a reason why it is not possible to type in lame command line parameters in the ExportMP3's 'Parameter' edit box...
Going back to 1.3.3

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
You can export MP3s at the command line using (external program), but only with the File > Export commands. What version are you going back from and what exactly can't you do there that you want to do? I know it's a deficiency you cannot edit parameters for export commands when you edit a chain... but you can't do that in 1.3.3 either.mafj wrote:Got the same problem...

Going back to 1.3.3
I tested repeatedly changing the MP3 bit rate in Options, then applying a chain including the ExportMP3 command a few days ago. It works in the current Beta (1.3.12). If it doesn't work for you in 1.3.12, then it's most likely an old LAME version is to blame. Get 1.3.12, then LAME 3.98.2 from http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ .

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
I have the same problem using "Audacity ® 1.3.12-beta (Unicode)" and the LAME 3.98.2 (for Audacity) encoder. The Edit Parameters button in Edit Chains opens no dialogue for ExportMp3.

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
When you use MP3 export in Chains, it will use the settings that you last used for MP3 export.

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
Weird place for such a setting, shouldn't this be set in parameters ?
Thanks for the reply though, solved my issue.

I agree.somenick wrote:Weird place for such a setting, shouldn't this be set in parameters ?
This has been mentioned previously but it's not yet on the "Feature Requests" page of the Audacity wiki.
You might like to suggest it as a specific feature request by posting here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewforum.php?f=20

Re: Export MP3 through chain settings
It does have some votes but they were on a separate "Automation" wiki page for more advanced automation methods. I've moved votes for improvements to the existing "Chains" batch processing feature back to Feature Requests so they are more visible. Somenick's vote has been added there.steve wrote:I agree.somenick wrote:Weird place for such a setting, shouldn't this be set in parameters ?
