I have Audacity 1.2.5 installed on iMAC 10.5.1. I have recorded several LPs and used the "export multiple" command to separate the tracks into individual MP3s. This has been successful in the past. I just recorded another LP and assigned labels where I want the tracks split but this time whenever I try to use the "export multiple" command I get a error that reads "unable to open target file for writing" and then a message reading "successfully exported 0 files". I have tried to write to my main iMAC hard drive as well as several USB connected hard drives and get the same error each time.
I can save the project, open the project and play the project in Audacity but cannot "export multiple".
Any ideas?

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

You would think that means, "I can't make the MP3 files," but what that really means is, "I can't update the System or Log file as to what I'm doing." Did you do an OS update in between the two events?
When was the last time you did a Disk Utilities, Repair Permissions?
Put your startup CD in the machine and restart while holding the "C" key on your keyboard. The machine will start from the CD (slowly) and you can open and run Disk Utilities from there. Select your disks one after the other and verify and then repair permissions. I bet you either experience troubles in one of those tools, or the problem goes away.

Re: Export Multiple Error Message
I was having the same problem, but solved it (apparently) by doing the following. The folder to be saved to was on the desktop, where there were other folders and files with similar names. I simply chose a different destination (in my Music folder) and the multiple export worked right away. I may not have the cause identified, but the solution worked.
Good luck,
Good luck,

Sure. Anything that can cause filename ID, Name, Ownership, or Permission problems.
There are wacky problems as well. "Guitar.wav" and "GuitaR.wav" are different on all Linux machines, some Macs, and they're exactly the same on Windows.
