Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

lost my audio

Post by clifftop » Tue Jan 01, 2008 10:01 pm

hello. been using Audacity 1.3.3 for year or more and its been great with Lapsda plug ins etc but decided to try newest version cos was still getting problems with crashes on large projects with lots of volume edits, etc. A mate reckoned might be a bug in the program. Anyway - so i removed 1.3.3 and downloaded 1.3.4 and have lost my audio set up + ladspa plug ins. have tried altering settings but even though sound is registering on my soundacard/patchbay router its not there on 1.3.4. nor are plug ins even though they were rare in the correct folder as specified on download site. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Been using 1.2 stable to record - exporting as .wav and importing to 1.3.4 which works but want it to work - especially keen to try new improvements with latency correction, etc. Any help please?

What does "I lost my audio setup" mean?

The LADSPA plugins should be in the "Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode)Plug-Ins" folder.

The LADSPA installer will only recognize Audacity 1.2.x, so if you have both versions installed you'll have to manually copy the Plug-ins folder from the folder with Audacity 1.2.x (should be called "Audacity") to the Audacity 1.3.x folder.

well to put it simply - i can record with Audacity 1.2 but not with my newly installed 1.3(.4) . I've also uninstalled and now lost my previous version of 1.3 which used to work fine with the same settings/set-up.
Lapsda plug-ins is a seperate issue (i think?) but also used to work with previous version of 1.3(.3). The plug ins are in the folder you specified, but dont appear in the effects menu. I've never used them with 1.2.

actually just tried copying and pasting the ladspa plug ins from my 1.3 to 1.2x plugins folder and they are appearing in the 1.2x effects menu! don't know if that helps?

I don't know what to say about the LADSPA issue, it's usually just a simple matter of making sure the files are in the right folder and then restarting Audacity. You got it right with 1.2.x, so I think you know what you're doing. So I'm out of ideas.

As for your audio i/o setup, is everything selected correctly in the edit -> preferences -> audio i/o menu? The settings you had for 1.3.3 don't migrate to a new install of 1.3.4 (I think).

now here's a bizarre thing!
My audacity >preferences i/o settings are playback: mme multichannel delta ap; recording: mme S/PDIF Delta ap. Channels 2/stereo.

These all refer to my Maudio soundcard with digital input linked up to DAT machine with one channel of stereo mic -all working and showing up fine. The soundcard settings are: s/pdif in. Master clock set to s/pdif In

However; these settings don't work to record audio on Audacity 1.3.4 UNLESS

i go to my computers Volume control and select the onboard soundcard Realtek for both playback and recording. Then; IF i select STEREO MIX then my stereo mic (of which i'm only using the left channel) will record the left channel of a stereo recording!!! If i set it to mono in both or either Audacity preferences or Volume Control it doesn't work.
I'm very confused!!
None of this happens when i use Audacity 1.2 which works fine with the Volume control settings for both playback and recording set to multichannel delta ap.
Its all highly frustrating as i would really like to be able to used the playthrough (latency) features of 1.3.4 to avoid having to use time shift tool on multi track recording.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense but i've tried to be thorough

Clifftop, there may be a way to disable your onboard sound card (either by moving a jumper on the motherboard itself, or through your BIOS setup). That might help you. I'm not sure what the origin of the problem is.

thanks for that. But if it works for 1.2 and it worked for 1.3.3 why can't it work for 1.3.4 too? surely that suggests something at the audacity preferences end?
