Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Audacity is looking for NetShell Hardware????

Post by engineerjoel » Tue Jan 26, 2010 4:35 pm

I have been running Audacity 1.3.2-beta for about 3 years with no problems.....until today....

When launching, the launching process stops and ask me "...Please Check that your NetShell Hardware is properly connected and turned on".

What does this Mean?

That's an external hardware accelerator device. Are you the only one who ever uses your computer?

I got nothing. Somehow your computer is convinced that you installed this device, or you installed software associated with the device.

If you dig down through Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input and Output, do you see this device listed there?

From the desktop, search the machine for "netshell."

You might try to trash the Audacity Preferences file and make it build it again.

Go > Home > Library > Application Support Drag the whole Audacity folder to the trash (Don't empty it yet).

Restart Audacity. Is it still asking for phantom hardware when it starts?

If it's still bad, trash the new folder and put the older one back. That folder has all your custom settings and preferences if different from the default Audacity. This is how you "reinstall" Audacity -- or it's one of the ways. You almost never need to download the program again. Trash the preferences and you have a new Audacity.

Have we covered the question of whether Waves Netshell software/drivers are installed?
Do you have Netshell hardware?

<<<Do you have Netshell hardware?>>>

The blank look question at the top suggests the poster has no idea what any of this is, but you're right. Nobody actually said that in English words.

thanks for everyone's input. Though, nothing seems to fix the problem. Although, Audacity does eventually launch and works properly....it just takes about 50 mouse clicks to get through all the pop-up windows that keeps asking me to Please Check that your NetShell Hardware is properly connected and turned on".

I have not installed or added any new hardware to the computer system in the past year. So, I'm not quite sure what 'it's' asking me. Spotlight does not return NetShell results.

Thanks.

Yes, I have the Waves Diamond Bundle installed. But, I have had this bundle installed for about 3 years with no problems with Audacity.
