That first file is a doosy!

Post by heyjoe » Thu Dec 27, 2007 11:34 pm

New user here, going from usb turntable to me ipod. Recorded both sides of lp, using the blue 'pause' button between sides. Used labels to split the recording into multiple tracks. Exported multiple followed by confirmation of 'ten files exported'. Then imported the 'ten files' to itunes. All was well until I noticed the first file, labeled with the title of the first track, was 42 minutes long and contained the entire album. The remaining files are as labeled and fine. Where, oh where have I come undone, oh great ones? Any and all help greatly appreciated. heyjoe

I'm suffering from caffeine deficiency right now, but there is something about the first marker has to be before the first note of the first song, not at the junction of song one and song two.

Koz, Thanks, I placed the marker well before the first note of the #1 track, hmmm. Maybe too far before? I was panned in too close to see all of the markers prior to exporting. Is it good practice to scroll along the entire recording and double check all labels and markers, prior to exporting? Can they move when scrolled out of sight? thanks again, heyjoe

I've never known the markers to move after you placed them somewhere. They can seem to move when you do editing because the markers are linked to absolute time, not the songs. So if you lift one song out of the middle of a imeline, all the markers from that point downstream will point to the wrong songs.

Markers are never as handy as you think. They don't represent edit points which is what we would all kill for. They are just little sticky notes like you put around your monitor to remind you of stuff. I was shocked that they could be used to export song segments for later creating a music CD. That's most useful.
