The CD won't play on Bose Acoustic Wave

Post by wtrhouse » Tue Dec 25, 2007 10:11 pm

New here. I'm using an ION USB turntable and an Intel MacBook Pro running OSX 10.4.11. Recording is done. Downloaded LameLib. Exported the file as an MP3 to a CD-R. When I put the CD into a Bose Acoustic Wave all I get is static. I first exported it as a WAV file and all I got was static on the Bose also. The recording plays on my computer just fine. I'm using Audacity 1.2.5 because the Audacity website said to use that for Intel Macs and to use Audacity 1.2.6 for PPC Macs. Perhaps this is wrong? Don't know what to try next. Thanks

You are probably creating a data CD and not a music CD - you do realize that you can't do this by just graggging teh WAV file onto the CD? Rather you will need to use some CD burner software (An example of this is Nero). Almost certainly you should stick to working with WAVs if you want to create CDs - use MP3s for portable devices like iPods.

You will probably want to break your recording up into tracks - so taht you can jum,p to individual parts of the CD easily, like commercial CDs. To do this all you need to do is to place a label at each track break - use the Ctrl-B shortcut - and don't forget to place a label right at the beginning for the first track.

Then use Audacity's Export Multiple command (available from the File drop-down) to export a multiple set of WAVs, MP3s or whatever.

The Audacity Wiki, Documentation and Turorials have much useful information on how to do this - a recommended read - http://audacityteam.org/help/

On Macs, the CD authoring process is handled through iTunes. Prepare the music in as high a quality as you can, breaking up the tracks as much as you think you need to; see Waxy.

Open the track(s) in iTunes, create a new playlist and burn the playlist to a CD. That's the difference between creating a drag and drop data CD with music tracks on it--or photoshop files or Illustrator files, or spreadsheet files; and authoring a music CD which only has music files in Compact Disk Redbook Format. Those should play in any Music CD player.

Manufacturers are intentionally blurring the line between the two. It used to be we could send you out the car to tell if you had a Music CD or not, but a lot of them now play MP3s and other data formats as well. Same with portable CD players. So if you suddenly find a music player that won't play your disks but does play Music CDs you went out and bought, chances are you didn't actually create a Music CD.

Thanks so much. I was talking to a friend last night and they explained that to me. It also said as much on the Audacity website but it went over my head I guess. I burned the disc through iTunes and it worked great. Thanks again.
