Multiple Tracks Playing Simultaneously

Problem:

While listening, I hear multiple tracks playing simultaneously. What should I do?

If you have multiple tracks in Audacity and you only want to select some of them, you can either select the track(s) that you want to export and use "Export selection as..." or, just delete the tracks that you don't want before you export.

Is that what you mean?

Not exactly. I have imported the tape. split the tracks. then went to listen to some of the tracks. I go to one of the tracks and hit play. That's when I hear two or three song playing at once.

OK, I'm going to assume that it's not voices in your head

When you split a track, Audacity will create a new track and place the split part onto the new track. By default, these "split" parts should remain in the same "time position", but they are not fixed there - they can be moved around.

Audacity v.1.2.x has a bit of a strange behaviour in that if you paste audio into a new track, it does not go where the cursor is, but goes to the beginning of the track. Another slightly strange thing with this version is that when you export, muted tracks are also exported (as if they were not muted). For this reason, I'd like to suggest that you try v.1.3.4 - although it is only a beta version, it is pretty stable for most people, and I think it would suit what you are trying to do a lot better than v.1.2.6.

With v 1.3.6 you can mute any track that you do not want to hear, and then when you export, the exported audio is the same as what you could hear in Audacity.

Both versions can be installed on your machine at the same time as long as they are installed in different directories.
You can only have one instance of Audacity open at a time. I think Audacity 1.2.x projects can be opened in v.1.3.4 but not the other way round.
