I hate these issues about label tracks. A while back there was a feature for "linking tracks". It was supposed to help keep tracks synchronised while moving bits around. It was a good idea, but had quite a few unresolved issues so it has been temporarily dropped. Consider this example: You have a short audio clip of 5 seconds and a long audio clip in the same track of 90 seconds. You have markers set every 5 seconds for 3 minutes. You want to move the audio clip along by 1 second and for it to take the markers with it, but you don't want to move the long audio clip. So you select the audio clip and the label track and with the Time Shift tool you drag it along by one second - perfect, it works. Now take the same scenario, but you only want to move the 5 second clip and only the marker under it - you want the other marks to stay put. Out of luck - you drag the clip and all the markers move together. You can't have it both ways so the developers had to make a decision.

Coming back to your question:

If your selection is within a label region then the label will stay synchronised . If your selection entirely contains a label and you delete the selection, then the label will be deleted. If your selection does not encompass or overlap a label region, then the label will be unaffected. There is a logic to it, even if it is not the logic that suits your current purpose.

As a general rule, it is better to add labels at the end of editing, after you have finished moving things around - which is fine if you can, but that's not aways practical, so here's the workaround:

Cut the section out of the audio track with "Split Delete" (Alt + Ctrl + K) this will delete the selection, but nothing will move.
Now move the cursor to the end of the selection and select from there to the end of the project (Shift + End).
Make sure that the label track is also selected (Shift + Click below track name to toggle selection).
Cut the selection (Ctrl +X) then move to the end of the remaining track (K)
and paste the selection (Ctrl + C)

As a genreral yes, I agree with you.

But an example that crops up reasonably often on the forum is when users want to place markers/labels as they record a show or review it on replay - to facilitate later editing by marking the edit-points . There are probably some other good reasons too that I can't think of right now.

So I for one would like to see the Linking fixed properly - and I do know it is a complex issue.
