Mono to Stereo Question

Post by Betamax » Wed Dec 19, 2007 1:40 am

I downloaded a WAV file from the web and it showed up in Audacity in Mono. I'm working on a song (in stereo) and i want to place the WAV file at the end of the song. But when i copy and paste it to the end of the song, its all garbled. Is there a way to change it so i can use it for my song?

Open up the mono track in Audacity (by itself), Select All, and Copy.

Open up a fresh Audacity in Stereo at the settings for your show (Audacity Preferences). Paste the music. Deselect the track and paste again. You should have two mono tracks, one above the other. Click the top track black down arrow and select "Make Stereo Track. Poof. Stereo--or really two-track mono, but it should slide right into your show. If it doesn't, then the formats of the new clip and the old show may not match. That's a different problem.

Sorry. Missed a step. After you create your new "stereo" song, you need to Export As Wav... and use that for your mix.
