Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Plugins

Post by jlf78 » Fri Jan 01, 2010 12:25 pm

I have loaded several plugins as dll in the Plugins directory.
For some strange (to me ...) reason, some appear in the Effect menu ans some don't.

Could someone help me with this issue?

Thanks

Not all plug-ins will work with Audacity.
VST plug-ins, in particular, need the VST Enabler plug-in to be installled.

See here http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... T_Plug-ins for information on VST plug-ins

and here http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Plug-ins on plug-ins in general.

Let us know which plug-ins still don't work.

Correction - in current versions of Audacity 1.3 the VST Enabler plug-in is NOT required. In fact it should not usually be used as it can cause effects to appear twice in the menu and interfere with the correct operation of the effects.

Many VST effects are now supported automatically by Audacity but in order to avoid having Audacity scan the system every time Audacity is launched (which can be rather slow on some systems) Audacity only scans for VST effects on first run, or if you explicitly tell Audacity to scan for effects. You can tell Audacity to scan for VST effects the next time Audacity is launched with a setting in Preferences - sorry, I can't remember exactly where this setting is, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Audacity does not support all VST plug-ins. In particular, Audacity does not support VSTi (VST instruments).

Thank you for your posts.

I had the VST enabler on and actually one plugin appeared twice.
So I have suppressed it and set the preference mentionned by Stevethefiddle.
It works

Thanks a lot

In that case, it would seem like a good idea to update the wiki article.

Updated it http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... T_Plug-ins
(It would be good if someone that actually uses VST effects could check that page for accuracy and update it as necessary.)

I have anothe problem with plugins ...
This time it's with a lo pass filter. When I apply it it returnes the message "Nyquist has returned no audio" or sometimes "Nyquist has returned 1" and nothing has changed.
Where did I go wrong?

Thanks

Which version of Audacity are you using? (Help menu > About Audacity)
Does it ever work?
Does the High-pass filter work?

Could you give me a step-by-step description of what you are doing so that I can try to reproduce the problem.
