Now that you're using 1.3.11, the Preferences layout has changed.

Re: How do you record from a tape cassete player?
Thanks for trying to help Bill. What am i now looking for?
Am i missing something here, im ok with computers, i know how to read, ive done tape to pc recording via that Icon tape player, but i have little idea what the hell im being advised or how to record taped stuff via Audacity. Its absolute gobeldigook, insane madness. Frustrating beyond belief. All i want, is in plain simple English what to do, is that too much to ask?

Re: How do you record from a tape cassete player?
OK, you have no "Audio I/O" tab in preferences so you must be running 1.3.11. Please select "Help > About Audacity" and tell us the version number.
You say an "Icon tape player". How does it connect to your PC? USB? Audio cable into a Line Input port? You say you've done recording with it before. How did you do that?
Can you verify using the Vista sound control panel that the Icon is selected for input?
In Audacity, Edit > Preferences then select Devices from the list on the left. In the "Recording" section make sure the same (or similarly-named) device is selected. For example, if you have connected via USB, there should be a selection there that corresponds to your USB device.

The Icon tape player connects via a usb and another square/rectangle shaped connection (one wire).
You play the tape, and using the EZ vinyl tape convertor software, it records, a monkey could do it. Cost £40, but i wana take it back if this works.
My pc is acknowloging the connection to my walkman saying "line-in". Theres a green tick and it shows 2 wires.
hmm pref - devices - recording - device: "no device found" (drop down) No other choice either. So do i need to get Audacity to find my line out? In control panel its recognised.
