inserting track markers for a continuous DJ mix
inserting track markers for a continuous DJ mix
Just downloaded the stable version of audacity for windows vista and wanted to know if there was any way I could insert track markers on a continuous DJmix so as when recorded on to cd I can flick through the tracks as oppose to hearing one 72 min track. Cheers. Rich.

Sure. See above. The trick isn't in Audacity although that's part of it. You need to be using a Music CD Authoring Program that lets you turn off the automatic, standard 2-second hole between tracks.
It's not unusual for the free programs to remove control of that tool and it magically shows up again when you write a check.

Yes Koz, but note that that article linked to above was expanded a while back to cover gapless burning - see this section: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ss_burning

Interesting that Gapless was left in the dust. That's clearly part of the original specification as classical music was on everybody's mind when they wrote it.

There are many rock/pop/etc albums too that were recorded with no inter-track gaps, including studio albums - Sgt Pepper immediately springs to mind (and that came out on vinyl before they invented CDs).

I can't imagine anyone sitting through "Turandot" when the theater ambiance vanished to inky blackness for two seconds after every act. Talk about removing the listener from the theatrical experience.

Mind you, my iTunes/iPod default settings a while back seemed to be set to crossfade between tracks - a dumb default IMHO.
Do you fancy a crossfade in Turandot at the gapless track boundaries? Not what Puccini intended at all, methinks ....
