wierd recording problems

Post by jasper371 » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:46 pm

I'm running on windows XP pro. I've been trying to record sound from some Counter-Strike:source demos i have so i can make a sound board. I tried all the settings but it would'nt record in-game. It would work when recording from my microphone and using the "what you hear" setting would record the streaming music from myspace. I got frustrated and gave up. Then i try again today, and it still does'nt work on the 'what you hear' setting, but then i try the 'wave' setting, and it works in-game. It also works with the microphone. Then 5 minutes ago, it stopped working again. Same problem as the original time it did'nt work. Everything else works, but it wont record in-game. I've looked at all the tutorials and searching the forums gave no results. Any ideas?

Constantly shifting problem like that are odd and difficult to fix. My best guess at this time is that Counter Strike is fiddling with the sound card and Audacity doesn't like it.

Does Counter Strike have any 3d audio effects, or other audio processing going on? That kind of thing can be taxing on your sound card and remove the ability to record in full duplex mode.

full duplex = record and playback at the same time.

I've got it working again. When i first start the demo, and go back to desktop and hit record, then go back in game, and then i go back to desktop and it has'nt recorded anything. So i stop recording, and start recording again, go back into CSS, then go back to desktop, and its working. Its weird and hard to explain, but it isn't a really big problem now that i know what to do.

Counter Strike has tons of 3d audio effects and it seems like it would be extremely taxing on the sound card. I guess the recording works after i give the sound card a little time to adjust or whatever. Going from dead silence to intense gunfire probably puts a good amount of stress on it.

Thanks for the help, and Audacity is the best sound recorder ever.
