Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

STILL can't add my mic even after reading wiki

I have a Mac running on Leopard. Still can't add my USB mic as the input device, even after selecting it in the mac's sound preferences. Ideas? Thanks.

Quit Audacity. Open the Sound Preferences panel, select the USB mic under the Input tab. Start Audacty, go to Preferences, Recording tab and select the USB mic as the recording device. This works for me using Audacity 1.2.6.

You might want to consider upgrading to 1.3.10.

Some USB microphones also require 44100, 16-bit, Mono instead of stereo. Reset Audacity Preferences and restart Audacity.

While you have the Apple System Preferences panel open, do you get the bouncing blue ball sound meter when you talk into the microphone? That proves that the sound is inside the Mac and you just have to go get it.

If you don't get the blue ball meter, you need to fix that first.

Oh, and yes. Intel Macs with Leopard do not support Audacity 1.2.
