Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No recording input/external sound card

Post by gillsimo » Fri Dec 11, 2009 12:27 pm

Hi.......My pc has a Soundblaster Audigy card fitted internally but I choose to run my sound to my hi fi via an external usb soundblaster card.
When this is connected my sound is auto defaulted to this second card and the internal card disabled.....as in no sound from its line out jack.
This is perfect in terms of listening to the audio output of my pc but defaulting to the external card not only disables this line out, it appears to also disable the whole card, including all audio inputs of course.
Once switched then I cannot get Audacity to accept input from any of the recognised devices, those being the motherboard Realtek, the internal audigy, the external soundblaster. The only obvious solution is to run the only other audio out on my external card, the headphone socket.....back into the audio in of either of my internal cards and setting audacity to record from its line in.
I really dont want to be recording off a headphone socket, I want to record direct off a soundcard via the usual, internal route.
So.....is there actually any way to set audacity to record from an internal soundcard output when an external soundcard is attached?
Any thoughts much appreciated...thanks
Steve

See this Wiki page: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... turntables

and this page for the manual under development for 1.3.x & 2.0: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... turntables

These articless are about USB TTs - but all a USB TT is is an TT with a peamp and a soundcard - so the advice in the article should apply in your setup.
