Bad Graphics on ubuntu 9.1

Post by climo » Fri Dec 11, 2009 2:52 am

I have version 1.3.9 installed on ubuntu 9.1, and when I load some music the graphics are all weird (see attachment). However, I tried to install an older version and it does not work either.

It's a graphics driver problem. I don't know how you fix it, but I remember seeing this problem on the forum on two occasions and there is information about fixing it. If you search the forum, hopefully you will find the answer.

Yup,

Same video problem on the same installation of ubuntu 9.10 on an amd 64 machine. Also same thing with Suse 11.2 on the same machine. I was having many problems with the sound also (HDA ATA HDMI) . I just put in an old Sound Blaster card and that got rid of all the sound problems for both systems.

I found the answer on another part of the forum. I neeeded to download the proprietary ATI graphics driver, for my system. Perhaps that is a similar solution for others, depending upon what video card they have.

Hello again,

The bad graphics driver problem was solved with Ubuntu 9.10 by loading the proprietary ATI driver, as stated above. I had the same graphics problem with Suse 11.2 but could not get the ATI driver to load at all. Ubuntu had a problem with the audio input from mike that was unrelated to audacity so I replaced the Suse installation with Fedora 12.

The native Fedora graphics driver as in the original install gives no such problems and all the sound works great. This is my first time with Fedora and I am impressed with it.

System: Gigabyte , GA-MA785G-UD3H, AMD-64 The video is just the on board video. The chip is Radeon 4200
