how do i make audacity 1.2.6 export mp3s in a higher bitrate

how do i make audacity 1.2.6 export mp3s in a higher bitrate

It seems to be defaulted to export mp3's at a bitrate of 128 and i would like to change this to something higher for better quality sound. Please help me out. Thanks

If you're after high quality for, for example, post production, you are urged not to use MP3 at all. MP3 always causes damage no matter what bit rate you use, and it adds up. Export As WAV.

Audacity 1.2 changes the MP3 export bit rate in Preferences, not at the export step like Audacity 1.3. If you change a preference, restart Audacity to make the change stick.

I agree with you about wav but i need this in mp3 format. I have already looked in preferences and there is nowhere to change the bitrate. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Edit > Preferences > File Formats > MP3 Export Setup.

never mind, i got it figured out. I just wasn't quite looking in the correct tab. Thanks for you advice.
