Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Audacity 1.2.5 Bugs

Post by JoshK » Tue Dec 01, 2009 6:41 pm

Hi, I'm using Audacity 1.2.5 on an iMac running OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I've run into some quirky behavior and would like to know if anyone else has seen this and can offer any suggestions:

1. When I select “Save Project" or "Save Project As," as I start typing a name for the project, it starts playing and often (but not always) adds an empty track. I have to save, remove the extra track and save again. I've been getting around this by typing the file name into TextEdit, then copying and pasting into the dialog box in Audacity.
2. When exporting to .mp3, if I make a mistake in the file name and use my backspace or Delete key to correct it, everything I recorded is deleted too. I have to cancel the export, go to Edit and select “Undo Delete” to get my track back.
3. Sometimes the spectogram progresses as the music is recorded, other times I have to periodically select the track to have it refresh itself. I’ve noticed no pattern to this. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.
4. If I have headphones plugged into the back of my computer and remove them while Audacity is open, it causes an audio delay of around 1-2 seconds. I have to close Audacity completely and restart it to fix that.
5. On two occasions the software simply either froze up or crashed while recording. I wasn't doing anything else in the computer at the time. Once it locked up (spinning wheel) and the other time I got an "Audacity quit unexpectedly" message. I do not have a screen print of the message, sorry.

If it would be better for me to post these as five separate threads, please let me know.

1.2.5 was long ago superseded by 1.2.6 - itself so ancient that Abe Lincoln was a user !

If you want to do bug tests - and the developers appreciate help in this area - then you need to use the latest Beta which is 1.3.9 very soon to be replaced by 1.3.10.

We are approaching Release Candidate status for v2.0 which is now expected earlier in the New Year.

No developer has looked at a 1.2 bug for many moons now - and nor will they ...

I only downloaded it a couple of weeks ago, and on your download page version 1.2.5 is labeled as the latest stable version for MacOS. And no, I don't really want to do any bug testing; I was just trying to use it and ran into these. I'll download the beta version and see how that works out. Thanks!

If you do catch serious oddities in 1.3.9, you can back up to 1.3.7 which I still use day to day. 1.2.5 is unsupported on new Macs.

Audacity 1.3.7 -- Mac

And yes, the irony didn't escape anybody that Stable 1.2.5 is actually unstable and Unstable 1.3.x is stable.
