Glitch with mp3 encoding--Help sought

Post by grinmrjk » Wed Nov 28, 2007 9:29 pm

After recording I tried to save by choosing "export as MP3" When I click save I get the message"Audacity does not export directly but uses lame" Would you like to locate it now. When I click yes it prompts the file name to be "lame_enc" and the file type as Onlylame_enc.dll When I click open I get the warning "could not open MP# encoding library. Then it only says close and Loops back to the original recording.
Everything worked fine for me yesterday, don't know what the problem is. Have tired re-loading both audacity and lame, no help. t's an important project for work, so I would appreciate any assistance you can suggest.
Thanks!

If it's important for work, I would export as a WAV file and save that somewhere that it's safe. If your system starts becoming unstable, you could flush the whole project and it's good to have a backup.

Because of where you posted, we don't know if you're on Windows or not. Are you? Vista?

Has any of this ever worked?

When I did this, I downloaded lame-3.96.1.zip and decompressed it to a pile of files in a lame-3.96.1 folder. Inside that folder is a file called "lame_enc.dll" Your file may not say the "dll" part if you told windows to hid the file extensions. Anyway, that's the file that Audacity needs to "find" to get the MP3 export to work. I don't know where some of those filenames you found came from.

Edit > Preferences > File Format > Find Library.

Still no?
