Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Missing Playback

Post by Gigmeister » Wed Nov 25, 2009 10:38 pm

I am using Audacity version 1.26 on my iMac G5 1.8 Power PC. (2 gig RAM, 250 gig Internal, 120 gig and 1 terrabite external HD, OX Tiger system 10.4.11) I can record audio using my Presonus Firebox but am unable to play it back. I keep getting the following:

"error while opening sound advice. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rates. "

I am using 44.1K mono on the Firebox and have it connected as input and output. Any ideas what keeps me from being able to hear my recordings? Thanks in advance.

Audacity defaults to 32-bit floating and Mono which is an odd combination in anybody's book. Change Audacity preferences o 44100, 16-bit, Stereo and restart Audacity.

Wait. The show is in Mono? It may be just the 32-bit thing.

Still no dice. I tried mono and stereo and it keeps providing the same message. Any other suggestions?

Did you find the 32-bit setting? That one's famous for causing problems. Preferences > Quality?

I switched immediately to 32 bit and never had a problem with it before. I do lots of voiceover work and almost all of it is 16 bit, usually 44.1K. I have the standard file set to .aiff since I'm on a Mac. I usually export files that need to be .wav upon mixdown.

I have not but will download and try it today. I am still on Tiger OS 10.4.11. Will it work with that?
