Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: Playback visual error
Yes, I'm using Audacity 1.2.5. My husband suggested the upgrade this morning, so we might try that.

Re: Playback visual error
I got it. I dug down to my Audacity 1.2.5, and what do you know, the cursor leaps about the timeline instead of smoothly progressing.
Upgrading is more interesting than you think. I use 1.3.7 for everything. It has some minor oddities, but all in all, it's well behaved.
Audacity 1.3.7 -- Mac
http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/au ... -1.3.7.zip
You can try the current 1.3.something, but some of those have been having growing pains
Audacity Current Release -- Mac

Many elves have been advocating using the current highly experiments release from here...
Audacity 1.3 Nightly Build -- Mac
http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.php?dir=mac%2F
The up side is you can have both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine as long as you only use one at a time.
