Set to Stereo, but playing back in mono (will only pan left)

Hello,

New to Audacity. Been recording in stereo just fine, but after a few hard crashes with Audacity, it stopped recording in stereo. Even though it's set to record in stereo in preferences and the channel says it's stereo, there's only one channel showing any sound frequency. Won't even let me pan to the right, just hard left.

Anyone give me any pointers on this?

Are you sure the recording source (the thing you are trying to record) is OK?
What is the recording source?

I am recording with the same instruments that recorded in stereo fine before the crash. Using several different keyboards, all of them are recording only left-mono. I can copy one channel, split it and paste it then recombine it as stereo, but that's pretty arduous.

You may have seriously scrambled preference files. Close Audacity and trash the configuration(preference) files.

When you restart Audacity, it should ask you "English?" and that's your confirmation that you're starting fresh. Then immediately go into Audacity preferences and reset to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity.

Then try to record something.

You actually don't need to go into full-on record. Click once inside the red Audacity record meters and they will wake up and meter your sound without going into record.

Do you know why it crashed?

Apple > About This Mac > Processor and Version. Read both, please.

Leopard/Intel. Cool. There is no stable Audacity 1.2 for us. Your program will do weird and wacky things as long as you continue to use it.

I use 1.3.7 from here...

...although there are instances of people needing to go to the 1.3.10 nightly builds to get a stable program. 1.3.7 is good.

Man, thanks! Limited audio software for Macs, at least affordable or shareware. I'll let you know how it works.

Downloaded the version you have and it's still recording in mono hard paned to the left.

Did you reset the Audacity Preferences?

Did you get prompted to select "English"?

On OS X the preferences are stored in a file called "audacity.cfg" which is located in: ~/Library/Preferences/audacity Preferences
