long vertical line

Post by Swakke » Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:05 am

In my opinion there are very few things missing in this version of Audacity but there is still one thing that I should like:
One (or more) vertical line(s)that can be drawn at any time, that goes over all the tracks and that stays where it was created. I mean that this line should scroll together with the tracks when they are scrolling.
If the possibility for more than one line is provided then a mark such as a number, a character or a color would be very helpfull.
Since my own language is not English I hope that I was understandable enough. If not, pls tell me.

You can create point labels or region labels at any place in the project.
When you create a label track, it is linked to the audio tracks above it in the Audacity window.

When you click on the label name, if it is a point label, it draws a vertical line on any audio tracks that are selected. If it is a region label, when you click on the label name, the audio in that region is selected, in any tracks that are selected.

Not quite true (picky, picky, I know). It depends on the "Link Audio and Label Tracks" setting in the Tracks menu. In 1.3.9 this option is on by default, and Labels are stuck to the audio. Linking of label and audio tracks will be disabled in version 2.0, so for the next little while Labels will be stuck to the timeline, not the audio.

In either case, this sounds like what the OP wants.

And then, even pickier, this should have been posted in "Add Features to Audacity."

You can also make "splits" in the track (Ctrl+I). These will move exactly with the audio, though there is no way of labelling them other than the ordinary labels.

Point taken.

... so, how long will we have to wait for 2.1, to get it back?
