Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

This process chances a lot depending on what kind of computer you have and some machines make this very difficult.

Re: Live Streaming
This information was brought to my attention. After you read this(please do).will the beta version work for me? Does this
sound like what I would need to do? in order to record Live Streaming off of the computer. Is there any thing that I would
need to change in this process? thanks
If you can't get the beta version to work you may have to download the stable version.
In Audacity click on Edit > Preferences > File Formats. Look at the bottom for MP3 Export Setup. Under that look for MP3 Library Version. If it has Lame v3.98 or any version of Lame you should be OK.
If nothing is there download the Lame Encoder from the link above. Save it someplace where it won't be disturbed because Audacity needs the file each time you save a file. Go back to Edit > Preferences > File Formats and click on Find Library. Navigate to the location where you saved the Lame Encoder file and install Lame.
In Vista go to Control Panel > Sound. Click on the Recording Tab. Look for Stereo Mix. If you see it make sure it is enabled. If you don't see it R click on a blank spot in the window and click on Show Disabled Devices. Stereo Mix should now appear. Again, make sure it is enabled Apply > OK.
In Audacity click on click on Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O. Make sure under Recording > Channels: 2(Stereo) is selected. Beside Device select Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input. Under Playback select Microsoft Sound Mapper - Output.
In Vista go to your Audio Manager and make sure the recording volume for Stereo Mix or Aux. is turned to about 65%.
If all is well you should now be able to click on the recording button in Audacity and record what you hear coming from your speakers.
Record what you want and when finished in Audacity click on File > Export as MP3. Give the recording a name and save it where you want.

Re: Live Streaming
Is there any way to get this working under Linux (specifically the latest Ununtu)?
Re: Live Streaming
Yes - use PulseAudio and set the recording source to "monitor". If you require any further details please ask in the "Linux" part of the forum.BassoProf wrote:Is there any way to get this working under Linux (specifically the latest Ununtu)?
