I have been happily using Audacity with standard sound card.
Ugraded to the above and cannot get a sound out at all!
It looks from the forums that I should be able to record.
Can anyone adise me of correct set up in devices

Re: EMU 0404 usb set up.
When you plug in a USB device like this your computer hands over control of all sound services to the USB device - both input and output. I suspect that you have no amp/speakers attached to the output side of your EMU - If so, then don't get any sound from the computer (not even the normal computer sounds).
All you need to do is to get your O/S and Audacity to retarget the sound output onto your computer's on-board soundcard. In Windows use Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio > Sound Playback - in Audacity use Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O > Playback Device - you may need to close and restart Audacity for the change to take effect.
Or connect an amp and some speakers to the output of your EMU.
Many folks fall into this bear-trap when they start out with USB/Audacity - I certainly did !

Re: EMU 0404 usb set up.
Thanks,
I do have sound playing from my PC. I made the emu as standard sound in Control Panel
In Audacity I am given Wav, SW Synth, CD Audio and Digital Audio interface as options - none of which sem to work.
Audacity preferences devices show either Windows direct sound - E-MU 0404 USB or MME - E-MU 0404 USB.
Changing that does nothing either. I should say that I have tried to record a file from my PC and from the radio (both of which are playing through the emu usb and attached speakers.

Re: EMU 0404 usb set up.
To record what is palying on your PC via an external soundcard you wouold normally loopback the outputs of the external soundcard to its inputs - end ensure that Audacity and Windows are both targetted on the external soundcard for both input and input.
When you say you are trying to record from radio - do you mean that you have an FM tuner connected to the input side of your EMU - and the EMU plugged to your PC via the USB? That should really worrk.
I note from the spec on t'interweb that your EMU device works at 24-bit - have you set Audacity accordingly to work in 24-bit? (I do seem to recall some previous postings where users had problems with 24-bit).

Re: EMU 0404 usb set up.
Thanks for responding.
I have been trying to record from BBC on the web.
I changed settings to 24 bit.
I may be a bit thick but did the final part of your reply suggest that I should try connecting my speakers output to the input of the usb connected emu 0404?

Re: EMU 0404 usb set up.
Exactly - that is known as loopback.
This is how I have to set up to record straming audio on my desktop. (Curiously my newer laptop lests me do it fine with the onbboard soundcard just recording the stereo mix passing throgh the machine.)
