The best thing for transcription, though, is not having to switch. Some years ago, I'd installed a Sony Digital Voice Editor program which came with a little Sony ICD recorder I'd purchased for note-taking. I've discovered that within Sony Digital Voice Editor I'm able to access both .wav and .mp3 files imported from my Zoom H2 recorder, and I'm able to use the keyboard keys designated by the Editor (F10, F11, and the directional arrows) to manipulate those sound files, without ever having to switch out of my word processing window. I wish Audacity were able to make it work as easily.
