Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Need help - Device is blank

Post by brick » Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:09 am

Audacity was working great until I used a reg cleaner and then it did something strange to my audacity. When I go to Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O, the device drop-down is blank. How do I get it to show something (my soundcard I guess?) there?

Thanks for helping!

Audacity keeps its operating preferences in the Windows Registry -- or at least it did until you "cleaned" it. This should let you completely remove the Audacity portion of the Registry

You'll know if you succeeded when all your Preferences vanish and it asks you "English?" at first birthday.

Hi brick,
Just completely remove the audacity files from the computer and also clean the registry as well. Then try to install it again.

You do not need to remove the Audacity files - it is a registry/Preferences problem as Koz suggests.
