Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

opening Audacity recordings with iTunes by default
whenever i convert an Audacity recording to mp3 and open it the default is opening with Audacity although I want the defalt to be iTunes. How can I make iTunes the default?
Re: opening Audacity recordings with iTunes by default
Try the following:
Highlight a mp3 file in the Finder, right click (or control-click) on it, choose "Get Info"; in the window that is opened, change pop-up menu "Open With" to iTunes, and press the "Change All ..." button.
I personally have all sound files set to open in Quicktime player because iTunes imports everything in its library.

Which you can also change. I think the default is to not import.

Yes, that's true: you can set iTunes to not make a copy of every song, but everything is imported into the Library database nevertheless.
