Delay effect moves my whole track back to zero...

Post by hughjass » Sun Aug 09, 2009 3:22 am

This is weird. I've done this before with no problems. I have a vocal track that does'nt start at zero, it starts/comes in about 45 seconds into the song. I've applied other effects to this track (eq) with no issues. But when I apply delay to give a slight reverb effect, it moves my whole track back to zero. This is when I just click the whole track to select it. If I select a portion of the track and use the delay effect, it stays put, but creates a new...um...forget the right term...but I have to merge the track back together again. Like I said, I've used the delay on one measure guitar fills in the middle of songs before and had no issue. Can't figure out what I may have changed.

Is snapping turned on in the lower part of the window? Sometimes you can work around problems like that by adding short silent stretches before and after.

It sounds like you may have a broken vocal track. Is it a foreign track, or is it you singing? Export the track as a WAV and bring it back in again and see if that doesn't help.

No, snap to is not on and it's me signing (use the term loosely). Like I said, just to experiment, I applied 5 or 6 other effects to the same track with no problem. It's only when I use delay. I end up manually selecting the track, starting a tenth of a second in to the end, and then having to "merge" the track back together with the newly split off tenth of a second. Weird.

Is it actually moving the track, or just padding out the beginning with silence? (screen shot may help explain what you mean).

Heh...um...so I go apply delay to the track to get the screen shot...guess what...works fine now. I spent an hour goofin with it the other night (looking for settings I may have changed). I am on my way out the door so I don't have time to really test it, but it may have solved itself. Thanks for the input anyways guys.
