Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Windows Media Player cannot open wav file to burn to cd
You can't clear WIN-Audacity 1.2 like you can the other versions. Your only two options are restart your machine and reinstall Audacity.
If you reinstall Audacity, you know you got a clean installation if if asks you "English?" at first birthday. All of your custom settings will vanish if you do that.
You can try Audacity 1.3. You can have both versions on your machine, but you can only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

There is a safe way to reset Audacity 1.2
See here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... o_defaults
Use the "safe" method described. When you restart Audacity it will ask you for your language.

Re: Windows Media Player cannot open wav file to burn to cd
Thanks for the replies guys! I did manage to export seven of nine songs to CD Burner XP. The other two come up with the message "The audio file has an invalid format" How do I export the remaining two songs individually? (Tried a search)

Re: Windows Media Player cannot open wav file to burn to cd
I have 2 wave files that were regionally recorded on a Olympus Digital recorder and then downloaded to a computer using the Lite version of the software that came with the recorder.
When these files are downloaded from recorder to computer, the only option is as .wave files. Once done, the files can be burned to a CD, But .wave will not play on a portable CD player

Still using the old 1.2.6?Egadsman wrote:I did manage to export seven of nine songs to CD Burner XP. The other two come up with the message "The audio file has an invalid format" How do I export the remaining two songs individually?
The format that you need for CD is 16 bit 44.1kHz
In Audacity 1.2.x the project bit depth is set in the Quality tab of Preferences. This should be set to 16 bit.
Immediately before you Export, check the "Project Rate" box in the lower left corner of the main Audacity screen. It should be on 44100. If it is on any other number, click on it and select 44100. Then Export as WAV.
To the other people that have posted here, please start a new topic - it gets just too confusing to try and talk to 3 people at the same time. Thanks.

Okay, I got the disc recorded! Thanks Steve and Koz, I appreciate your patience and courtesy. Yes, I am using the 1.2.6 because the download site said the newer version was for advanced users. Thanks again guys, and have a good night.

Yes we kind of wish they could lose that labelling and the "unstable" warning. In fact 1.3 is now in its very late stages of development, fairly mature and heading towards Release Candidate status. It is actually probably more "stable" now than 1.2.6 which has several known bugs - none of which will evert be fixed in 1.2Egadsman wrote: I am using the 1.2.6 because the download site said the newer version was for advanced users.

Re: Windows Media Player cannot open wav file to burn to cd
hi,
I had same problem with windows media player and WAV burning.
Downloaded CDBurnerXP, that did job very quickly, no bother, and is simple to use. Forget WMPlayer!
Thanks for tip.

Just wanted to add my two cents.....I've downloaded the CDBurnerXP and it worked just as needed to create Audio CD's. Very intuitive for basic buring and compatible with Audacity files.stevethefiddle wrote:Don't use WMP for burning CDs, use CDBurnerXP - it's a much better CD burner and it's free.
