Error while opening sound device

Post by spionkop1901 » Tue Jun 08, 2021 11:49 pm

I haven't used Audacity for a few weeks and when I try to start recording, I get the following message " Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate". I deleted and reinstalled Audacity, but to no avail. Using Windows 10. Any suggestions?

Here are some things to try:
1) Transport > Rescan Audio Devices
2) Turn OFF overdubbing. (Transport > Transport Options...)
3) Turn OFF software playthrough.
4) Switch between MME and WASAPI.
5) Switch between recording 1 and 2 channels (mono vs. stereo).
6) Switch between Record and Shift-Record.
7) Check that Audacity's project rate and track rate (in lower left corner and left of track), and Windows recording rate and playback rate are all at the the same speed (run mmsys.cpl). This is typically 44100Hz or 48000Hz. (Properties, Advanced, Default Format)
