Using Audacity 1.2.6 on a Power Book G4 w/OSX Tiger ver 10.4.11. 1.5G Ram, 74G Internal HD w/11.39G available. All other apps are shut down.
I recorded a sound check of our Church Musical Director vocal and self accompaniment on a Marantz PMD570 CF Recorder. Clicks, (dropouts), are noticed using Audacity but are not noticed using the Marantz PMD570 or iTunes for playback. Also, no dropouts are noticed using Toast Titanium ver 9.0.1 for record & playback, (.WAV file).
As a general rule I repair permissions each week and do a PRam Reset every other month. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? I haven't done a re-install yet but am considering it.
Thank you
Bob

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Re: clicks in audio
You're only missing one speedup trick. Download and run MacJanitor or run Periodic from the command line.

I'm more interested in that sound file. Open in QuickTime and Apple-I to get the INFO panel. What does that say?
Don't reinstall anything yet and I would stop resetting the PRam. Those only have a limited number of cycles and one of these times it's going to wake up stupid and there's your computer in a pile on the floor. If half your keyboard suddenly drops dead, or your WiFi fails for no reason, then yes, go ahead and poke it.

Re: clicks in audio
Finally got back to working with Audacity. I downloaded and launched MacJanitor and performed all the clean up recommendations. The file no longer has the original "clicks in audio" I started with. Thanks for your help!
I now am working on a new project, ie., the sound track of a Memorial Service recorded by the Mackie TT24 sound board tech on our Marantz PMD950 CF Recorder. Unfortunately he muted the mics that were picking up the Pianist doing the prelude to the service at about 25 sec. into the first piece for about 5 seconds. Also he did not change tracks between selections. I would like to eliminate the first selection, (with its blank 5 sec. interval), and start the recording cleanly at the second selection. How do I accomplish that task?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: clicks in audio
Just select the portion you don't want (use your cursor to click&drag to slect) and then simply press the Delete Key.
You may want to do a fade-in at the beginning (select a small bit of audio and used Effect > Fade In ).
