Sample Rate

Where can I check the sample rate on saved MP 3 files? I see that my bit rate is 128KBPS but I want to check the sample rate.

Also "sample" problem here. When trying to upload a small mp3 file to a server, (Verizon Pix Place), I get an error message that "the sample rate (44100) is greater than 22050"; BUT I went into Audacity Preferences and set the default sample rate to 22050 before recording.
Any suggestions?

Audacity automatically changes the project rate to the sample rate of the first imported audio. You can see that in the lower left corner of the window. That's also where you can change it back to your desired sample rate.

I wish there was a preference setting to stop Audacity from doing that like 'enforce default sample rate' or something.

On the other hand, the present behaviour saves a lot of time when you work with files with different sample rates and you don't want Audacity to resample, which, generally, is a good a idea as resampling degrades the audio quality slightly (or worse if your default rate is 22050).

Also, I'd love if you could stop Audacity from resampling while recording. Now, you always have to double-check if the project rate is the same as that of the audio interface.

Absolutely. Just set the project sample rate in the lower left corner immediately before Exporting and that is the sample rate that will be used for the Export.

Simple workaround: Ctrl+SHIFT+N creates a new track. Now the project is not empty and the default project rate will stick.
That's not actually much easier than just switching back to the required project rate, but it's an alternative.

Perhaps an option in Preferences would be a better solution - you could post your ideas on the subject in the "Feature Request" section of the forum.

I've not noticed a problem with that. When I am recording stuff I generally have everything with the same sample rate, but I guess it depends what you are doing.
