Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

1.3.8 fails to start. Asking for Native Instruments Folder
I just installed 1.3.8 on my OS 10.5.7 machine. When I try to start it, I get the following message:
Native Instruments
Installation folder not found. Please select a folder now.
I choose OK,... it asks for the folder, I point it to the Native Instruments folder I have on my machine, then Audacity quits.
Any suggestions? I was previously on 1.3.3 and it worked just fine.
Thanks

Re: 1.3.8 fails to start. Asking for Native Instruments Fold
Native Instruments seems to be a music production software company with a series of products.
--buy Native instruments reaktor 5
--oem Native instruments reaktor 5
--Native instruments reaktor 5 sales
--Native Instruments has released a Public Beta version of Battery v3.0.5 for registered Battery users.
So what connection do you have with Native Instruments?

Audacity 1.3.8 has some kind of VST support built in - I don't know much about this (I'm on Linux and VST is not relevant to me) but I saw something on http://n2.nabble.com/audacity-devel-f238278.html that may be relevant.

Hi all!
I downloaded 1.3.8b and installed. When I open the program it crashes instantly.
Mac OS X 10.5.7 Intel MB Pro. Any idea?
Other Mac Users are reporting the same behavior.

Hi petele. Have you tried the latest nightly build from here: http://www.audacity.homerow.net/index.php?dir=mac%2F
It's probably a good idea to delete the audacity.cfg file before you install the new version - I'm not sure how you do that on a Mac, but there should be some Mac people around later.
BTW, it's OK to start a new topic if you do not find answers in an existing one. Also ok to post in another topic if your issues match exactly with those of another user. Not good to post in very old topics, not good to double post (posting the same question in multiple places), or in a topic that does not exactly match your issue (for example if the symptoms, the Audacity version, or the computer type are different). Hope that helps.

I tried the latest nightly build from 20.07.09 but it shows identical behaviour. Tries to launch, beachball of death, crash.

That's a terrific clue. You get the SBBOD when the time allocated for a task is greatly exceeded. Are you running out of drive space?
Go > Computer > System Drive (on the left) > File > Get INFO. Never go to greater than 90% full.
How many applications do you have open? 30? 40?
When was the last time you did a Repair Permissions?
Go > Utilities > Disk Utilities > System Drive > Verify Disk and Repair Permissions.
Let's start there.

It's a grand idea.

OK, I did delete the audacity.cfg file.
I have 20GB of free disk space which is less then 10% of a 250GB HHD. But is that already "running out of drive space"?
Now the problem still isn't solved. But does that mean it is running on your system without any problems?

Only 1 (Safari). That shouldn't be too much...kozikowski wrote:How many applications do you have open? 30? 40?
