How to mix two sections of same track - can I do that?

Windows 10
Audacity 2.4.2

Attached is image of a portion of track:

I would like to mix the two areas defined by the insertion point. I'm sure there's a way to do that without bending too much iron, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks!

If you mean that you want to crossfade them, see: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/cro ... clips.html

No, I really didn't want to crossfade - wanted to mix those two areas.

I managed to struggle through and just now got it done:

1. Created a ne clip of the righthand side into a new track
2. Time-shifted the new track so that the sections in question lined up
3. Mixed the two tracks and rendered

(BTW: When I did that, the track that contained the split-out part disappeared - what if I didn't want it to disappear?)

That ended up with what I wanted to accomplish. Is here perhaps a more straightforward way to do that?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but perhaps "Mix and Render to New Track" rather than "Mix and Render".
