How to remove playback start position cursor?

Post by ixodid » Tue Oct 06, 2020 7:19 pm

When I click on the audio track to place the editing cursor, the playback start position cursor is attached to the editing cursor (I have Quick-Play disabled).

If I then want to move the editing cursor to the beginning of the track (Shift + left arrow), I get a right-pointing arrow cursor opposed to the playback start position cursor (the two together look like a bowtie) and an associated vertical white line in the audio track. I can Select > None to remove that second (right-pointing) arrow but if I attempt to move the editing cursor back to zero, I get the second cursor again.

How can I move the editing cursor back to zero without manually dragging it or holding down the left arrow key?

Sorry for the simple question, but apparently I've missed something after having spent much time in the FAQs, manual, and searching the forums.

Windows 10, Audacity 2.4.2

If I then want to move the editing cursor to the beginning of the track (Shift + left arrow),
"Shift + left cursor key" extends an audio selection from the current cursor position (or current selection) to the left.
If you just want to move the playback cursor position without creating an audio selection, just use the left cursor key (without the "shift" key).

A few other handy shortcuts:

"J" = move cursor to start of clip
"Shift + J" = extend selection to start of clip
"K" = move cursor to end of clip
"Shift + K" = extend selection to end of clip

"Home" = move cursor to start of project
"Shift + Home" = extend selection to start of project
"End" = move cursor to end of project
"Shift + End" = extend selection to end of project

The full list of keyboard shortcuts is here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/key ... rence.html
