and the exact three-section version number of Audacity from "Help menu > About Audacity".

Splitting a track
How do I split a track so I can insert additional dialogue?

Click on the audio track at the point where you want to split, then press "Ctrl + i" (or "Edit menu > Clip boundaries > Split").
Use the Time Shift Tool to slide the audio clips apart to make space.
Record the new part in a new track, then use the Time Shift Tool to line the parts up like this:
