I've followed all the tips & FAQs I can find and still can't get Audacity to record from an external USB DVD player.
Mac OS: 10.15.5
Audacity: 2.3.3
Sharing & Permissions for me are Read & Write
Terminal shows SIP is enabled
With System Output Device as MacBook Pro Speakers, the DVD plays sound, no problems
System Preferences, Security & Privacy, Privacy, Microphone does not list Audacity and, as noted in Help, there is no + to add an application
Audacity has not asked for permission to access the microphone (or anything else
I have tried every combination of the System Output Device, Audacity microphone (2nd drop-down) and Audacity speaker (4th drop-down) from those available: MacBook Pro Speakers, Movavi Sound Grabber, SWB Audio Capture & USB Advanced Audio Device: all give a flat line when recording.

Audacity 2.3.3 is a 32 bit app and Mac OS 10.15 forces 64 bit applications. I think it can be forced to work with some tricks.
