Which format does Export > (external program) use?

Audacity 2.2.1 usefully has the "(external program)" format option in File > Export > Export audio. This says "Data will be piped to standard in", which is great, but a couple of questions:

1. what format is the data in? can I know things like the bitrate and so on?
2. what happens if I export a project which has multiple tracks? Does audacity mix them down first? (I can of course avoid this problem if I want separate export through my external program for each track by exporting each track separately.)

I seem to recall that fixed that truncated message for 2.4.0

The bitrate is defined by the command you supply - (external Program) export is tricksy expert-level stuff (on the borders of or above my nerd-grade)

Yes Export will mix down all tracks that are not unmuted - You can use Export Selected to export only selected tracks or selected portions of tracks.
