I have a nine part recording and i want to isolate one of the parts to hear it. Is there a way to mute out lower frequences and isolate a higher one?
Thanks, deb (a new user)
Isolating certain frequencies???? Can it be done?

Yes, the High Pass Filter will let you pick one tone pitch and eliminate everything below that. It's in the extra plugins when you installed Audacity.
Select (highlight) your song and Effect, High Pass Filter...
Middle C is around 256 Hz to get you going. Orchestral A (the oboe sound at the beginning) is 440 Hz. That's the A above middle C if memory serves.
Let us know how it goes.

Well, that's not going well. The High Pass Filter passes way too much extra sound that it's supposed to be rejecting and you can't control it very well.
The other tool that does stuff like this is Effect, Equalizer and it has really good control of the tools, but the effect could use a good kick in the pants. As I'm finding, even if you apply the same filter twice, it doesn't have the effect that I want--it doesn't go far enough.
Maybe there's something in the Audacity Web Site plugins that can be of use. I'm looking for a "Shelving Amplifier" effect. All sounds pitched below the shelf setting go away, not just get a little lower.
