Are you asking koz about what settings he used, or are you asking about the update in Audacity 2.3.3 from "Equalization" to "Filter Curve"?

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
I'm running OS Catalina (updated it before I'd read about any issues with certain apps).
My Audacity (2.3.2) runs fine, but I had issues trying to export edited sound clips. Any time I tried to export as .mp3 or .wav, I'd get a warning message saying that other programs may not be able to open/read the saved file. The icon of this type of file looked like a piece of paper with the corner folded over (like a standard Word doc).
If you're having this same issue when you go to export your sound file, rename it so the format is after the name. If I was to name it TEST, I'd write 'TEST.wav' as the file name, rather than just 'TEST'. This seems to prompt your mac to read what format the file is meant to be sorted in.
Hope this helps some stuck people!

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
That happens if you enter a file name that has a dot "." in it.
If you have a dot in the file name, then you MUST include the file extension (such as ".wav" or ".MP3").

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
Audacity Recording with OS Catalina - I don’t have any problem opening the app, I just can’t record from my Sony turntable Codec device or my Pyle USB Audio PnP Cassette device! If I open app with Terminal the Codec device works but the PnP doesn’t work! Codec works using Garage Band but PnP doesn’t! Seems like this is OS issue since their own software doesn’t work under Catalina!

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
Does anyone know why when I use the workaround, it only fixes the no audio issue with my Mac's built-in microphone and not my USB plug-in microphone? Any suggestions?

I'm puzzled because for me the workaround works with my Macbook Pro's built-in mic and my external USB soundcard (Edirol UA-1EX)purplenightingale wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 11:29 pmDoes anyone know why when I use the workaround, it only fixes the no audio issue with my Mac's built-in microphone and not my USB plug-in microphone?

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
The workaround has only worked for my external microphone once and I'm not sure why. In general, when I use the workaround and audacity opens, it won't even give my external mic as an option. It only shows "Built-in Microphone" on the drop-down list. I'm not sure what made it work that one time.waxcylinder wrote: ↑Fri Feb 28, 2020 12:54 pmI'm puzzled because for me the workaround works with my Macbook Pro's built-in mic and my external USB soundcard (Edirol UA-1EX)purplenightingale wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 11:29 pmDoes anyone know why when I use the workaround, it only fixes the no audio issue with my Mac's built-in microphone and not my USB plug-in microphone?

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
If for some reason this doesn't work, you can try opening Audacity as root:
sudo open /Applications/Audacity.app/Contents/MacOS/Audacity
This worked, thanks. Only remaining problem is that when I closed Audacity and then reopened it from the dock, it again failed to record. Looks like one has to use Terminal to open it each time. Until bug fix comes along, that'll be fine. Thank you!

Re: MAC OS CATALINA
Gents! I am using Catalina 10.15.4 and Audacity 2.3.3 (awaiting for the release of 2.3.4).
The workaround to get Catalina to "allow Microphone" to launch with Audacity works using the suggested Code - either through Terminal or through Finder>Applications>Audacity>Contents.
Unfortunately (for me) while the microphone works, there is no sound. It just "flatlines".
Some people here who were successful with the workaround say that they can now "record". I'd like to know what additional steps they took to make that possible.
Thanks!

Actually you're waiting for 2.4.0 - and we're still hoping to ship this in the second week of May.Aquariusone wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 11:01 pmGents! I am using Catalina 10.15.4 and Audacity 2.3.3 (awaiting for the release of 2.3.4).
