how to get effect drop drop functions to work, I have had Audacity two days, I have UBS turntable to download records. I have a lot of scratches in current project and want to get them out. First one I felt I would try is Noise Removal. Any help

No. Noise Removal's job is to take out the low rumble or air conditioning noise behind or underneath a voice performance.

You want Click Removal, which will turn out to be really named Click and Pop Removal. Select a large segment of the music and apply the filter moving the sliders to see what they do. Do not try to find the clicks and then start the effect. That's not how it works.

The idea is to use a tool that doesn't change the music, but can find a click which is usually much louder than the music. If your music is mostly percussion, you may be out of luck--or need to find the clicks by hand.

Doing it by hand is really painful, but that can be done. Zoom all the way in to the spike waveform (clicks are pretty obvious), select it, and Edit, Silence to get rid of it.
