Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Cannot Record--Help!!

Post by Honey » Sat Oct 13, 2007 9:44 pm

I got a new computer using WIN XP professional. Downloaded Audacity but when sound comes through my speakers, all I get is a straight tone...no recording. In my old computer I used to use Stereo Mix but Stereo Mix is not available on the tool bar. All i see is Rear Mic, Michphone, Line In. I have done to the control panel and changed everything I know but cannot record. What to I need to do or what am I missing?

I suppose we need to find out what you're trying to do. You didn't say.

I can't record......what?

Which version of Audacity?

In the past when I heard music on the internet or even a program on the internet I used to use Audacity to capture the music or program, then save the information to my hard drive. Since I have a new computer I cannot record the music or programs. In the past I used stereo mix to record. Stereo mix is not one of the options any more. What can I use to capture the recordings?

Thanks

Oh, beans. I'm not good with those problems. Did you go from Windows XP to Windows Vitsa? Or Windows 2000 to Windows XP? Somebody else wrote how to get around that problem. I'll see if I can locate it.

honey,

This wiki page should help you out, there's a big grey box right at the top of this link:
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... trol_Panel

That page should tell you how to set your driver software up right, but you might need new drivers, in which case this page will help:
