M4A tags are not exported

Post by nonenmac » Sun Jan 03, 2010 4:13 am

When I export a selection to a M4A (AAC) file (FFmpeg), the tag data that I entered into the template is not included in the exported audio file. It works for MP3 files, but not for M4A files. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a problem with the sofware?

This bug has just been fixed in the nightly builds.

Note that the Windows builds linked from this page are "frequent" rather than "nightly". Make sure the About Audacity dialog shows a build date of January 2 2010 or later.

Though this issue should have been fixed in 2010 I still encounter the same problem in 2013 on
Windows XP SP3 with
Audacity 2.0.3 (german version)
FFmpeg: F(52.64.2),C(52.72.2),U(50.15.1)
Lame: 3.99.3

Tags not exported:

Tags exported though:
Track (nr)

as visible to MP3Tag(v2.55a), Format Factory (Media Info), nokia mobile device and nokia suite.

Could you please recheck this, if it is a problem in audacity or FFmpeg or a typical PEBCAC? In case of the latter please let me know how to circumvent this issue, please ;-)

Audacity currently supports only these tags: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/me ... ditor.html
Of these, Artist Name and Year are not currently supported for M4A format - the others are.
Audacity is an audio editing application, not a dedicated audio tagging application - for comprehensive tag support you really need to use a specialist program such as MP3Tag.
