Switch off drag and select loop?

Hello, I hope someone can help me!

I am finding it very difficult to use Audacity since this loop drag-and-select was implemented. I simply want to jump around the timeline and listen to certain bits on my audio track but I always end up selecting loops, so everytime I have to stop, clear it, and a few seconds later here we go again.

Is there any way this can be switched off? I just need to click-and-play on timeline to find what I need…

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS: I cannot go back to previous versions of Audacity…

That’s unfortunate. Why is that?
As far as I’m aware, that’s the only solution.

Yes, thank you. That is so annoying. I have the same problem and then I’m trying to deal with shortcuts just to make the looping vanish altogether. Makes me not want to even touch the mouse or enter any of the audio region.

sadly, you can’t turn off looping altogether - but you can give yourself a simpler shortcut for the command Transport > Looping > Clear Loop

Currently this is an awkward three-key shortcut Shift + Alt + L - but you can readily replace this with a single-key custom shortcut, see:
